Camp Massad C306-123 Doncaster Street , Winnipeg MB

Camp Massad is seeking: Board of Director Applicants

The mission of Camp Massad is to create a dynamic summer camp experience that encourages the use of the Hebrew language, promotes pride in Jewish identity, and connects campers to their community and Israel in a safe, nurturing, inclusive, creative, and fun-loving environment.

Camp Massad is the only Hebrew immersion overnight camp in North America. Our Ruach makes Camp Massad unique - it’s an experience. Camp Massad instills in its campers respect and love for Eretz Israel and its diverse peoples, cultures, history, and geography.

Jewish camping has an enormous influence on building Jewish identity. Research has proven that children with positive Jewish experiences become adults who value their Jewish heritage, support Jewish causes, and take on leadership roles in their community. The impact of Jewish summer camp is clear, and the opportunity to increase that impact dramatically is significant. Camp Massad has built its foundation on these principles and is committed to leading Jewish summer camping in North America. Massad continues to expand its mandate to provide camping services to the Jewish community regardless of a family’s financial circumstance by offering subsidies to those in need.

Camp Massad is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and operates with the support of numerous additional volunteers on several committees. Our Board of Directors is currently recruiting new

Board members to support the camp’s initiatives.

We are currently seeking community members to help direct and protect this critical community agency. We are particularly interested in people with skills in one or more of the following areas: fundraising, governance, healthcare, mental health, marketing, alumni engagement, event planning, accounting, business, and law. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to help move the organization forward and meet our growth targets around enrollment, fundraising, infrastructure, and endowment building for our long-term sustainability. Board experience is encouraged. Being a Camp Massad camper or staff alumnus is NOT a prerequisite.

Successful applicants will be elected to the Board at Massad’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Board Members must commit to a 2-year initial term.

The responsibilities of Board Members include:

  • Attending monthly Board meetings

  • Guiding the camp’s strategic planning process

  • Establishing key policies and controls

  • Assessing and building organizational capacity to successfully execute the plan

  • Exercising fiduciary accountability, including passing the camp’s annual budget

  • Acting as an advocate on behalf of the organization

  • Taking an active role in the camp’s marketing and fundraising efforts

  • Maintaining status as an annual donor in good standing with Camp Massad and the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg

  • While not required as a condition of Board membership, members are encouraged to serve on a committee of the Board
