The Rady JCC offers a friendly, family-oriented environment where people of all ages can enjoy health and fitness classes, sport and recreation, Jewish life and learning programs, cultural and performing arts, and social activities and outreach programs.
Cultural Arts & Community: Rady JCC features numerous exciting events throughout the year that celebrate Jewish culture and speak to the diversity of the Jewish experience, including the Tarbut: Festival of Jewish Culture, the Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival, Israel Pavilion (Folklorama), Asper Jazz Series, Mameloshen, and Music ‘N’ Mavens.
Jewish Life & Community: The Rady JCC presents family, youth and community programs to bring people together on Jewish holidays, such as our Chanukah Extravaganza, the annual Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration on Israel’s birthday, and Shabbat dinners. There are also adult education opportunities to express Jewish
identity and connect with members of the community. These programs deepen one’s understanding of Judaism through language programs, cooking classes, adult Jewish educational programs, Israeli Dance programs, Zooming In: Contemporary Issues Through a Jewish Lens, People of the Book: Jewish Book Club, Women’s Health Series and workshops on Jewish traditions and holidays.
LGBTTQ Groups: Rady JCC presents activities for Anakhnu (LGBTTQ group) and Chofshi (under-35 LGBTTQ group). This initiative is an opportunity for Jewish LGBTTQ individuals, family members and friends to socialize, gain information and share ideas in a welcoming and inclusive Jewish environment by encouraging individuality and Jewish identity. Programming includes Shabbat Dinners, film events, Jewish holiday gatherings and more.
Youth:
-Strictly Tweens: This enrichment program runs Saturday evening activities throughout the year for children in Grades 5 and 6.
-BBYO Connect (Grades 7-8): The Rady JCC’s BBYO Connect presents enriching and fun programming that is specifically designed for students in Grades 7–8. Year-round activities include cultural, social, wellness, and community service projects. Students can foster leadership skills on the Connect Council.
-BBYO (Grades 9-12): BBYO is the world’s leading Jewish youth movement. BBYO is a program of the Rady JCC and is the largest Jewish organization in Winnipeg specifically for teens. Open to students in Grades 9–12, it includes a variety of programming such as Shabbat dinners, coffee houses, Jewish programming, sports activities, conventions, Tikkun Olam, social action projects and much more.
-Teens As Leaders (TAL): T.A.L. gives teens the opportunity to develop skills in becoming trained and experienced
counselors and leaders through a unique course of study. The year-long program gives teens eight leadership and growth programs in preparation for future employment at the Rady JCC and in community settings.
-Maccabi Games: The Rady JCC leads the Winnipeg contingent at the JCC Maccabi Games, an international Olympic style competition for Jewish teens ages 13 – 16. In addition to athletic competition, the JCC Maccabi Games features opportunities for Jewish youth to engage in social events with other Jewish teens from around the
world.
-March of the Living: An international, educational program that brings Jewish teens from all over the world to Poland on Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, to march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built during World War II. Then off to Israel to observe Yom HaZikaron, Israel Memorial Day, and Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel Independence Day. The goal of the March of the Living is for young people to learn the lessons of the Holocaust and to lead the Jewish people into the future vowing “Never Again”.
-J-Serve: J-Serve, The International Day of Jewish Youth Service, is held every spring worldwide, with the Rady JCC hosting the local efforts to embody the spirit of tikkun olam, repairing the world and tzedakah, just and charitable giving, helping to make the world a better place.
Children & Family Programs:
-Parent/Child Programs: A wide range of programs for parents with newborns are available, from Parent & Baby Weekly Drop-In Play Group to Yoga for Mom & Me.
-Pre-School Programs: Programs include Music, Yoga and much more, plus our weekly drop-in program, Family Fun Zone, is held on Sundays.
-School-Age Programs: After-school enrichment programs, School’s Out for Gray Academy In-Service Days, Jewish Holidays and Break Camps, and birthday parties are available to school-age children.
-Summer Day Camps: During the summer, Day Camps for children 3–14 years old are available. Camp categories include: Shemesh (Children ages 3–5), Ruach (Children entering Grade 1–2), Keshet (Children entering Grade 3 and Up), and Adamah (Teens entering Grade 7–8). Daily drop-ins are also available.
-Beyachad: Robyn Braha School of Dance
at the Rady JCC: There’s a full year Israeli Dance program for school age children, and preschool and teen dance programs are also available.
Early Childhood Education:
-Kaufman Child Care Centre and David &
Ruth Asper Early Learning Centre: The Rady JCC’s Kaufman Child Care Centre provides high quality care and education to children ages 3 months to 9 years old. Care is available on all Gray Academy school in-service days and Jewish Holidays for all children registered full-time, as well as, children enrolled in the Before and/or After School program. Additionally, a second child care centre is opening on Grosvenor, the David & Ruth Asper Early Learning Centre, for children as young as two years old. The new centre will accommodate 48 more children.
Special Needs: The Rady JCC prides itself on being an inclusive place. Persons of all ages with special needs are encouraged to participate. Programs are offered throughout the year to not only build fitness levels, but also self-esteem, confidence and creativity in a social, friendly environment.
Older Adults:
- Active Older Adults: The Rady JCC provides opportunities to participate in programs developed to engage mind,
body and spirit as you age. Whether it’s through modified Pilates and Yoga classes, Aqua Fitness or a Rady Wellness Series health talk, Rady JCC is the place to call home for the active older adult.
- Culture & Community: The Rady JCC’s older adults programming consists of cultural, social, educational, and leisure activities including Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, drop-in mah-jongg and bridge, concerts and special events.
- Intergenerational Program: Our Intergenerational Program allows older adults odifferent backgrounds and experiences to connect and share their knowledge and skills with young children in the Rady JCC Kaufman Child Care Centre.
- Shalom Singers Choral Group: A community choir that meets weekly for a spirited songfest of various musical
selections.
- Stay Young Club: This program provides older adults with a weekly healthy Kosher lunch and Educultural Hour.
- Transportation Program: Funded by the Daniel Tallman Family Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, a Taxi Voucher program is offered by the Rady JCC to older adults who are no longer able to drive.
Fitness & Wellness: The Rady JCC helps more than 5,000 people stay active as members of our state-of-the-art fitness facility. Programs and wellness services are offered throughout the year to not only build fitness levels, but improve mind and spirit as well in a welcoming community for all ages and abilities.
Scholarships & Camperships: Provide scholarships in the form of camperships and discounted memberships to financially disadvantaged families and their children.
Volunteering: Engage over 500 community members each year through their volunteerism at Rady cultural and
community events, the Israeli Pavilion during Folklorama, Sports Dinner and much more.
