After his first trip to Israel, Ron Evans, the Chief of Norway House and the former Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs drew a parallel between the history and struggle of First Nations people and the Jewish experience and wanted to expose his own young people to what the Jewish people had accomplished. In a joint program between the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, the first group of 30 participants went to Israel in 2012 and again in May 2013. Shelley Faintuch, Community Relations Director for the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, worked with the group before, during and after the trip and coordinated with CIJA (Jerusalem office). Corrine Clyne was raised in the community of Norway House, Manitoba, Canada and was one of the participants on this mission in May 2013. Please join us in discussion with Shelley and Corrine on the parallel experiences of the Jewish and Cree people’s history, what insights can be shared from each other’s struggles, and what can we learn from the state of Israel.
