Speak Yiddish Think Jewish: Cultural Learning Series
with Professor Itay Zutra of University of Manitoba’s Jewish Studies Department
This lecture series will introduce students to the rich treasures of modern Yiddish culture. Spanning from late 19th century Europe and ending with the Holocaust and beyond, we will explore such treasures as jokes, curses and blessings, short stories, poems, plays, and films, to showcase the possibilities as well as limitations of a secular modern Jewish culture in Yiddish in all diasporas (Israel included). No prior knowledge of Yiddish required!
