The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (Genesis 2:15)

To celebrate the holiday of Tu B’Shevat we focus on celebration and gratitude for the natural world. As part of these efforts, this is also a time for education and re-dedication to our stewardship efforts. In this three part education series, we will root ourselves in text study with Rabbi Kliel focusing on the concept of Shmitah (the Sabbatical Year) and how this concept is a component of our stewardship. In the following two sessions we will have the opportunity to focus on the science behind climate change with a representative from the Prairie Climate Centre, learn from Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition (MEJC) and about advocacy work that is currently taking place in our community, and learn with one our congregants, Tyler Rebecca Pearce, how we as a community can get more involved in the fight to protect our beloved planet.

Our Guest Presenters:

Prairie Climate Centre (PCC)

The Prairie Climate Centre is committed to making climate change meaningful and relevant to Canadians of all walks of life. We bring an evidence-based perspective to communicating the science, impacts, and risks of climate change through maps, documentary video, research reports, and plain-language training, writing, and outreach.

Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition (MEJC)

MEJC is a community-led alliance of volunteers living in Manitoba committed to climate action and climate justice. We seek to protect and restore our environment while promoting social justice policies and community resilience, now and in the future. We are committed to working in solidarity with other frontline and fence-line communities directly affected by fossil fuels and climate change impacts. Our organizing prioritizes relationship-building and is campaign-focused, based on set strategies, and preparing for moments of opportunity. Everyone is welcome. We all have a part to play.
