Remembering Chiune Sugihara

A tribute to Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese diplomat who issued 2140 transit visas to Jews in Kaunas (Kovno) Lithuania during the Holocaust. Sugihara courageously disobeyed the orders of his government in order to protect Jewish lives. He was recognized by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Naions in 1985.

The Japanese Consul-General to Canada will be taking part in this event and will introduce a film on the subject.

Reception to follow. No fee for admission, but registration is necessary.

The program will take place at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights at 5 pm on March 23 and is a partnership program with the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada.
