What’s With All the Strange Rituals? | Passover Teen Learning & Games Night| Led by Lara Rodin

Jews do so many strange things at the Passover Seder table. We eat (and even sometimes enjoy) gefilte fish. We lean. We play hide and seek with a cracker. We fill four cups of grape juice to the brim. We beckon invisible strangers into our homes (cue Elijah). What’s with all the strange rituals? What did the rabbis of 70 CE who created the Seder want us to think about and feel when doing each of these rituals? How are these rituals relevant to us today, in 2021? The point of Passover (and arguably of Judaism!) is to probe our people’s story and ask questions about why we do what we do, and what it all means. Join us this Passover as we go on a journey through Leil HaSeder, telling stories, playing games, and most importantly, asking good questions!

Lara  is an educator, student, and seeker whose mission is to empower Jews to use the texts and rituals we have inherited to explore our relationship with the divine, our communities, and ourselves. Before beginning rabbinical school at the Jewish Theological Seminary,

Lara spent two years learning at Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, where she completed a Masters in Jewish Education. Lara teaches prayer and text in summer camps, synagogues, day schools, and BBYO. When she’s not in the classroom, you can find
her hiking or cycling in the Canadian Rockies, near her hometown of Calgary. Lara was born in Winnipeg, has deep family ties to Etz Chayim, and is excited to learn with you this Passover.
