Tuesday, November 18, 7:30 p.m. Anna-Lisa Kirby Presents: The Carole King Songbook As in previous years, the Tarbut: Festival of Jewish Culture has chosen to celebrate the work of an outstanding Jewish musician or composer. This year, we will be focusing our trained ears on the prolific work of Carole King. Carole King (born Carol Joan Klein) began her musical career in the 1960s when she wrote more than two dozen chart hits for various artists, many of which have become standards. King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album charts in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years. A winner of four Grammy awards, inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Carole King’s music forms a great part of our collective memories. With a solid all-Winnipeg band comprising of Will Bonness, Steve Kirby, Larry Roy, Quincy Davis, Joanna Majoko, Heitha Forsyth, and led by the inimitable Anna-Lisa Kirby, this concert will have you humming along to Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Beautiful, You’ve Got a Friend, as well as many other Carole King favourites.
