Saturday, November 15, 8:00 p.m. Michael Greilsammer Israeli violinist and singer songwriter Michael Greilsammer’s unique music blends Irish reggae with rock. As a child of French immigrant parents, Michael’s speech fluctuates between French, Hebrew and English – and he uses all three languages in his songs. He plays the classical violin with the technique of an electrical guitarist, to create a magical sound. Michael’s debut album Mitorer/ je me reveille was released by the major French music label “Naïve” which boasts renowned artists such as Carla Bruni and Marian Faithfull. In his second album B Paris, Michael collaborates with his wife Shimrit, who has been likened to an Israeli Joni Mitchell. Michael is currently producing his third album with material in Hebrew, French and English. Based in Jerusalem, Michael has earned himself the title of the world’s only Jewish reggae violinist. His lyrical mix of French and Hebrew, pepper his music, which is influenced by the rhythms of Bob Marley, Irish pubs, Gypsy camps and the Arab street. Michael Greilsammer and his band will kick off the Tarbut: Festival of Jewish Culture, setting the musical tone and a danceable vibe for our Festival!
