Community Relations: Advocating for a Better World

Community Relations represents the local Jewish community to other Jewish and non-Jewish communities, various levels of government and the media addressing issues of racism, antisemitism, Holocaust awareness, social justice, and religious freedom.

The Department advocates on behalf of the Winnipeg Jewish community and the State of Israel. It also fosters interfaith and inter-ethnic understanding and harmony.

Community Relations represents and liaises with The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA).

Convention in Winkler

Mel Lazareck, Karyn Lazareck and Shelley Faintuch attended the first All Nationas Bless Israel Convention in Winkler, MB on July 29, 2011. Guest MP Candice Hoeppner brought greetings from the Prime Minister and Keynote speaker Shelley Faintuch gave a presentation on antisemitism today.

Letter from CIJA

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs was in communication with the presidents of all Canadian universities prior to the start of Israel apartheid week. This letter expressed the combined position of the organized Jewish community of Winnipeg and was received by the presidents of the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg. Kasim Hafeez

On Monday Feb. 6, Kasim Hafeez (left) presented the “Changing the Israel Narrative in the Muslim Community” to a standing-room only crowd at the Berney Theatre. Earlier that day, he spoke to community leadership and students. Hafeez is a British Muslim who went from being an antisemitic anti-Zionist to an Israel advocate. theisraelcampaign.org
